The Road to Discovery is an award winning DVD set with accompanying curriculum materials available to sixth grade science teachers in the Kern Region.

Join high school students Sandy and Connor as they create an extra credit video about why Kern County has some of the worst air pollution in the United States. Through conversations with a weather anchor, a mechanic, an ecologist and others, the two students learn why the San Joaquin Valley, located in the western part of Kern County, has greater air pollution than the county's eastern regions. The experts offer Sandy and Connor several "hints" about air quality and pollution throughout their exploration. These "hints" will serve as excellent starting points for great science fair projects!

In an effort to spark student interest in earth science, Kern Council of Governments encourages teachers to use this resource along with its companion instruction manual and website. The video may be viewed in segments which will place the California Grades 5 & 6 Science Content Standards in a local context.
