 
Kern Council of Governments (Kern COG) and the Kern County Public Health Services Department are putting a twist on the traditional St. Patricks Day celebration with a challenge to Kern Regional commuters; dont just wear green, be green!
On March 17th, regional commuters are encouraged to go green and leave their car behind when they commute to work.
As an incentive to walk, bike, carpool, vanpool, or take the bus instead of driving alone, Rideshare partners are handing out stickers to participating individuals who want to exclaim their greenitude and avoid a pinching. The Rideshare sticker will be available at the following locations:
- Kern Council of Governments (1401 19th Street)
- GET (available through Downtown Transit Center kiosks)
- Kern Regional Transit (available from drivers on all morning routes)
- Kern County Public Health Services Department (1800 Mt. Vernon Avenue)
- Bike Bakersfield (1708 Chester Avenue)
Top Ten Ways to Save Money on Gasoline
1) Carpool.
2) Be sure your tires are properly inflated.
3) Keep your speed down to 55 mph.
4) Don't speed up and slow down, maintain constant pressure on the gas pedal.
5) Practice trip linking, schedule your errands together.
6) Have your car properly checked, maintained, and tuned-up.
7) Walk or ride a bike instead of driving.
8) Don't let the car idle, a modern engines only use approximately seven seconds of gas on start up again.
9) Let kids ride the bus.
10) Use air conditioner instead of opening windows when driving at high speed.
